Sunday September 23rd was a keeler day for a fall run! What better trail to tackle than Spring Creek? We met at Buffalo herd overlook at 8:00. Justin, Jeff & Kell, Tracy D, Pat, Brent and myself were the lucky contestants. We proceeded west on I-70 to the Downieville exit 234 and went back under the freeway. Unfortunately Pat couldn’t get his 4x4 to lock in and he had to head back to Denver. The rest of the group headed straight up the hill. Being the end of September the trails were lined with nothing but brilliant oranges and reds. This trail begins with a bite. The first hill is vertical with holes and rocks spaced just far enough apart to give open vehicles a mouth full of spooled up dust. Definitely a good test of articulation! The trail begins to widen as you ascend a nice rocky climb quickly turning into a scenic shelf road overlooking I-70.

The next obstacle is simply a left turn. The only problem is there are boulders tightly placed on both sides and a nice cluster in the center of the uphill turn. Just a few hundred feet above the turn the fun begins! Dicky Dow, Yippee Kyee!!! Just before we reached the boulder field we ran into Dave’s group negotiating the rocks. Turns out through the process of elimination he was able to direct us through the best line the first time. Every one in the group stormed that area! Keeler job by The Edge!!! Thanks Dave!!!

Once through the mine field we found a nicely shaded meadow to have a little lunch. After lunch we went right to Saxton road into Georgetown. What a trip! We looked at our watches and discovered that it was before 3pm!!! As early as it was we had a powerful thirst and decided to stop at Tommy Knockers in Idaho Springs for some liquid refreshment! What an unbelievably full on, Keeler trip!!! Can wait ‘til next time!
Cheers!!!
Chris…
