Red Cone 2006

This years Red Cone run was the best in recent memory.  It began in typical Edge style on a seasonal August Sunday…  After a couple of days of rain, it had the promise of one of the best runs of the year.  Once we arrived at the trail head, we began preparations for our ascent.  We aired down and disconnected the sway bars for maximum articulation and traction.  The initial climb went off without a hitch, (except for the ignoramus on the ATV that put a nice ding in Arts rear quarter panel on his way around our group).  Makes you wonder what the hell he uses for a brain…exactly?  Otherwise, with the rain from the previous day, trail conditions were excellent.  Artimus and Cole brought the term “roost” up a notch completely covering their vehicles in mud through one of the sippie holes we encountered along the trail!!  Tons of traction and none of the bull dust to cloud our view of the Cone or near vertical drops on either side of the final climb.  Once on top we had to take our traditional picture, but this with 60-70 mile per hour gusts and driving snow, we took a quick hike down around the sign and retreated to our vehicles for the downhill part of our adventure!  Very typical vert and just as thrilling as the first time down!  We dropped to the intersection where Webster meets the Cone and took time for a quick  ten-hunerd…!  We followed our traditional route to the cabin at the bottom of Radical Hill and ate lunch.  We talked about the military plane crash in that very spot in the 1950’s…  Crazy to realize this much time has elapsed, and in ways the terrain hasn’t changed one bit!  At the top of Radical Hill we took in all the views and enjoyed the scenery for a moment.  Our exit went very well as we reflected on a damn near perfect day!
