Grizzly Lake
September 21st brought with it the run we had been waiting for all
year long! I assure you that it was well worth the wait…
We made our way over Kenosha Pass and continued on through Fairplay to Johnson’s
Village where we fueled up for the next portion of the trip.
We headed up toward St. Elmo and found the county road that crossed the creek to
begin our climb. We aired down prior to crossing the stream which took us to the
toughest obstacle of the run! The 3 foot ledge got the adrenaline flowing nice
and early! I started on up looking for the best approach… I soon realized that
even my 36” XZL’S and ARB’s weren’t going to carry me up without a little rock
stacking! The combination of the hole at the bottom and the huge ledge all at
once made for an interesting climb. It gave us a great view of the sky for a
minute or two though! Once I got through it was Tony’s turn to take on the
challenge! After taking it back and forth a few times for positioning, along
with proper rock placement, he got up the massive ledge. Tracy did a nice job of
getting up with some minor rock stacking. Next, Art cruised up with his newly
repaired ZJ… He did a great job climbing up, only running out of tire and
getting hung up in the middle. A quick tug with Tony’s Jeep pulled him on up…
As we continued on we really enjoyed the leaves, and the general condition of
the trail. It was tight in places, with rocks throughout. We stopped in many
spots along the way to take pictures, and wow was the scenery amazing.
Once we made it to the Lake, the only word that came to mind was Amazing. We got
some of the best photo’s we’d ever taken! Grizzly Lake is nothing short of
breathtaking! All in all it was by far the best new trail we have ever tackled!
Till’ next year! Cheers! Chris…
