Jenny Creek
08
With up to 12” of fresh powder predicted for the high country, some slight modifications had to be made to our Mt. Antero outing slated for the weekend of August
16th… After about 30 seconds of thought, Jenny Creek came to mind and turned out to be the perfect alternative!
We met at 6th and 58 and headed west up the canyon towards Blackhawk and Central city and followed it into Rollinsville. After about 2” of rain in Denver over the past 4 days, we were a little leery about heading into the mountains. It could have put a serious damper on our wheelin’ if the rain were to continue throughout the day. We were surprised by sunshine on the way up, and the good weather stayed with us throughout the course of the trip!
We decided to change things up a bit this year and run the trail from top to bottom. Once we arrived at the lake, the overnight snows were very apparent. The lake was beautiful, with partly cloudy skies over head; it was a perfect day for wheelin’! We began down through the trees, to the creek bed. The water was high from the recent rain and snow; however we were traveling with the flow vs. against it this year making for a little easier going.
The crew did a nice job negotiating the rocky trail, and really made short work crawling though the rocky terrain. Once we arrived at the tight corner, we realized that something was missing…the bridge! With the heavy snows this winter and the runoff that goes along with it, the bridge was washed down stream. This made it a little harder to recognize the trail, especially running it in reverse! After crossing the creek, we decided to have lunch enjoying the sound of the rushing water behind us. The way out had few challenges, except the long and bumpy road!
What a great trail! Til’ Next Time, Keep Rockin’ in the Free World! Christopher…
