Memorial Madness
2008
We kicked off our Colorado wheeling season in style this year with our journey down near Buena Vista. Friday’s cool weather turned into a wonderful spring Saturday.
The chosen trail for Saturday was one that we had explored on our scouting run a couple of weeks before. The trail was in good condition allowing us to enjoy the amazing views offered in the area, and just the right amount of challenge to add a little excitement from time to time. That made us ready for a keeler steak and ice cold frothy!!!
The trail for Sunday was a return to Chinaman’s gulch. We chose a little bit later departure from camp than usual, allowing a little bit of breathing room between groups…
This trail never seizes to amaze me. We began our normal ascent with all the usual attention getters along the way. For a bit of a change we decided to run the trail in its proper direction, foreword! This made for a whole new experience. The rock that we had traveled down was definitely more fun going up! The group tackled the massive rock obstacle with the usual Edge confidence! We soon made our way to the optional rock garden. I stuck to the left line just be sure the Crusher still had its flexibility! The Crusher held up its end of the bargain, unfortunately I wasn’t paying close enough attention to the trees at the top, while driving over the rocks on the bottom!! I took a limb to the passengers left corner of my hard top. OUCH…. That little crunch was far from music to my ears!!! It did match the other side that was impaled on a previous Chinaman’s run! The only other carnage was Tagimo decided to re design his tie rod and both rocker panels!! We stopped for lunch and with some fancy rock wedging Tagimo was able to bend it close enough to straight to get his rig home. The rest of the trail was nothing less than a ball buster… We were glad to get back to camp and wash down some of that trail dust with some fresh barley pops!!!
2008 ROCKED! Bring on the rest of the season!!! Missed all that couldn’t make it!!! ‘Til the next run, CHEERS!!!! PASALE’!!!! Chris…
