Raspberry Run

2008

This years run was by far the best laid back run of the year. After meeting at the Buff, we took the new Central City Parkway up to Apex… Once through Apex we decided to take the more challenging route straight up. We realized very quickly that our usual bypass route was closed by a concrete slab! We continued straight through the tight trees and bushes, often scraping both sides of our vehicles in the process! Even Kathy’s Durango got a little trail damage!!! Once we arrived at the raspberry patches, we realized that not only did we choose the perfect time of year, but the perfect patch!!! They were completely loaded with berries!  After getting our fill, we headed toward the 2nd part of our journey Kingston peak.

We had lunch at the bottom of the trail. We headed up the beginning of the trail over the cattle guard. Once we got over the hill we could see the infamous mud puddles (or small lakes)! Yes, this is the same mud puddle that Super Dave donated his 4 liter to a couple of years ago. Scott and Tracy had to duel each other in the splash department, and it seemed to be a tie since both vehicles were left stranded in the water… The Rangie gave Scottie a tug and Tony’s Rubicon pulled Tracy to dry land…

It seemed like Déjà vu all over again!!! We pulled the plugs out of both trucks (easier said than done on Scotts V-8 with custom headers. We drained the water out of all the cylinders and ouch that water was boiling hot!!! We dried everything out, turning the engines over without plugs to push out the remaining water.

Tracy’s Jeep ran a little rough, but seemed to sound healthy. Unfortunately Scott wasn’t so lucky. There was some massive knocking and rattling coming out of his small block… We got in touch with Super Dave and had him bring up the Diesel and trailer. I towed the BAMF back to the main road with the Rangie and less than 5 minutes after we arrived, SD showed up to save the day! Man is it great to have good friends!!! It was a great run all and all, costly but great!! Just goes to show you how strong our Brotherhood (or Sisterhood) is!!! Oh YEA!!!! THEDGE!!! Cheers, Chris…
