Moab Easter Jeep Safari 2005

Well after a long years wait, it was back to the slick rock of Moab Utah. But only three  of the "Edge" vehicles were able to make the trek, the newly beastified "XJ" of Super Dave ,  the always ready to crunch "WJ" of Captain Crunch , and of course the sure footed Pinz of Tracy and Marcy.  CC got in a day before SD and ran  out to the Needles Overlook on Tuesday. Wednesday it was off to Flat Iron Mesa trail, only a few obstacles on the trail. The SDXJ had no problems on any of the trail, except frightening Super Dave on the tippy corner over the 900 ft drop off when leaning 28 deg over the edge. Captain Crunch only had to bypass one obstacle ( SD built a heck of a trail vehicle and was almost bored, CC really enjoyed Flat Iron) . Thursday we ran Metal Masher, this trail is a lot more fun then Flat Iron Mesa. Super Dave and his XJ executed all the obstacles ( even the optional ones ) with out a problem except Widow Maker. Only the trail leader rigs were able to make it without a pull. Captain Crunch was not to be out done. He too made every obstacle he attempted except Widow Maker. The weather wasn't as nice as last year , as we were snowed on and rained on every day there. There was some breakage by the SDXJ on mother-in-law hill. He snapped the rear joke /u-joint straps off climbing the obstacle.  CC and SD were2 of the 3 vehicles to attempt Widow Maker without a strap, the rest of the 25+ vehicles went straight for the strap  ( the guys in the Hummers were to afraid to even try)  SD was 1 of the 3 vehicles to attempt and conquer Rock Chucker. We completed the evening  getting  together with Tracy and Marci for dinner at the local Italian eatery Many thanks to the techs @ the Moab Outpost for the quick repairs in the wee hours on the SDXJ.
